Hey life trackers, i hope everyone is doing amazing. I am so sorry it has been a while since i posted here. life caught up with me but that’s alright because i am here and that is all that matters! I get a lot of DMs from people on instagram asking about the types of deep conditioners that will be best for them. That is why as your favourite blogger i am here to assist you with my 3 personal favorite deep conditioners that I have grown to love in my two years natural hair journey and i am very sure they will help you when choosing a deep conditioner. I know the struggle which comes with choosing the right deep conditioners which work for type 4 hair especially 4c when there are a lot of brands on the market right now.
Let me start by saying this, if you are a naturalista, and you do not deep condition on every wash day please start doing so. Because in this bus, we do not skip deep conditioning on wash days! And like I always say our hair thrives on protein and moisture and deep conditioner provides a balance of these two.
I have high porosity hair but I believe these deep conditioners I’m about to talk about are not really based on porosity although i think it is best to let you know. So the first is the Shea moisture Manuka Honey and Mafura oil Intensive Hydration Masque line. It is thick and very moisturizing like the name suggests, any hair product that has honey as one of their main ingredients screams moisture. It purposefully made for days you feel your hair is too dry and needs some intense moisture. It is extremely thick. i love to use it on days i do ayuverdic treatments or protein treatments and it leaves my hair always moisturised,
The second is another Shea Moisture product(low key i have a soft spot for Shea Moisture) which is the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Deep Masque. This deep conditioner is more of a protein masque. I mostly use it when i have freshly taken down my braids. The consistency is very thick but not as thick as the the Manuka Honey line, like i said it is more of a protein masque so i choose to add honey to it to make it more moisturizing for my hair and it is really amazing.
The last but definitely not the least is the Aussie 3minutes moisture miracle deep conditioner. The main ingredient is avocado which means moisture, moisture, moisture! It is so moisturizing, the slip is amazing. It really does the job. It leaves your hair very moisturized unlike some deep conditioners which dry out your hair immediately you rinse them out. It means business when it says 3 minutes!
I hope this post has given you a fair idea as to the next deep conditioner you would love to purchase and try. if you already use any of the above mentioned let me know how you feel about it/them in the comments.
Hey life trackers! It’s been a while but I’m back! Hope you are doing well and protecting yourselves. This blog post is a review of a night serum which was launched in Ghana a few months ago. I decided to give it a try. I didn’t have a serum anyway so I thought it was a good idea to try.
Since I started my skin care journey, I have used only two serums with this being the second. For the first one, let’s just say it didn’t serve its intended purpose. It rather caused acne on my face. because of my experience with my first serum, i was a bit skeptical to try this serum so not seeing any signs of acne after a week on using it was a big relief for me.
The Nokware Glow on the go! is a 3 in 1 night serum formulated with a natural AHA, vitamin C and Moringa blend to fight the look of dullness, dark spots and discoloration. It was recently launched by a Ghanaian owned brand called Nokware.
I bought this serum with the sole purpose of getting even skin while glowing on the go. Although it can also be used to clear dark spots, I focused mostly on my neck area and after using it for over month I have seen massive improvement.
First impression: The packaging is a 10/10. It comes in a pretty pink box, well-sealed. The bottle comes with a dropper, making application very easy. Just as directed on the packaging, 2-3 drops is enough. As you can see I have been using mine so much it ended up getting stained. That’s how amazing the serum is!
Consistency: The serum is neither thick nor watery. And I think that’s good. It is not heavy on your face neither is it too light to come off easily.
You should know that when applying, it should not get in contact with your eyes because it can lead to mild irritation. It happened to me and it was quite uncomfortable.
Smell: For me, it smells like ground nut. It is not bad but for face it seems off. But hey, it does the work! It might because of the natural ingredients used in making it.
Will I purchase another? Definitely. I have seen great improvement in my skin;it is gradually getting even and so I will purchase another. It is a staple in my skincare products.
Note that it’s for all skin types. Also it is a night serum and should be used when going to bed.
You can purchase it on their Instagram page they are just dm away.
Hey life trackers, it’s been a minute! Hope you guys are still staying safe and loving yourselves extra each day!
I have been getting a lot of questions from new naturalists in my Instagram dms especially my high school leavers asking about what hair products to buy to start their journey. Since I’ve got you guys😚, this post is all about the basic things you need to start a healthy hair journey. More like a “natural hair starter kit”.
A sulphate free shampoo will help clean your scalp and will not strip your hair of it natural oils. A moisturizing deep conditioner helps to reintroduce moisture into the hair. Same goes for the deep conditioner. However, it is very necessary to get a deep conditioner as it does more and extra of what the conditioner does. It helps to keep your hair moisturized throughout the week.
The combination of the leave in conditioner, avocado or coconut oil and the Shea butter is great for locking in moisture. Note that coconut oil does not work for everyone. For some people, it leaves their hair dry instead of moisturizing it. Give it a try and see how it works for you.
Hair bonnet should be a staple in your haircare regimen because it must be on your hair every night to avoid breakage. If you prefer a satin scarf or pillow, go for it.
Scalp massager should also be a staple tool. Helps with blood flow on your scalp.
Wide tooth comb helps with easy and safe detangling of the hair. The spray bottle can be used for your pre pooing and daily/ weekly moisturizing.
And my favorite, water. Water should be your best friend. It is the best moisturizer your hair needs. Do not abuse it but make sure your hair doesn’t lack it. Anytime your hair feels dry just spray a little of it on your hair using your spray bottle.
Always remember that growing a healthy natural hair takes time. you need to have patience for your hair and enjoy the journey. like i always say, it is called a journey for a reason.
Hey life trackers, I hope we are all staying safe? Thank you for the love on my last post, so for today I will be talking about how best you can get a regimen for your hair and if you already have a regimen you can make few changes as you read.
“What are you using for your hair?” This is one question lots of people ask once you start having healthy, growing hair. Most often than not, you’re expected to mention a miracle working hair oil or cream. PS there’s none existent. Some people are quick to say “ I only use Shea butter” yes Shea butter promotes growth However, they may be doing other things right that they might not even be aware of. This is just to point out that your hair will not grow if you are not doing the right things. And to do the right things you need to follow a regimen or routine.
A hair regimen helps you have a purpose for your hair and aids in healthy growth.
So how do you build a hair regimen?
Before you can plan your routine you need to know your hair. It is very important to know certain aspects of your hair like it’s porosity and even suitable oils. My hair might love coconut but the same wouldn’t apply to you. Check for your hair porosity first.
When it comes to hair care, there are some routines that should be done monthly, some weekly and others, daily.
With the monthly routine, you can adopt protein treatments and ayuverdic treatments. These are done for strengthening purposes and therefore should not be done any more often than a month since it can lead to breakage of your hair. Alternating these treatments works best for me. So if in August I do protein treatment, September will be ayuverdic treatment and I believe I’ve seen good results in that.
Trimming your ends should be done when necessary. If you want to be trimming your hair every month or every two months, That’s good but imagine just trimming even when you do not have split ends. You would have trimmed good and healthy hair. This is to say you need to look at your hair closely and find the appropriate time to trim. So trim when necessary.
It is advisable to have your wash days weekly, especially when you have your hair out the entire week or you have extremely dry hair like mine. You can’t afford to not wash your hair weekly. Well, some people choose to have their wash days every two weeks. This can be done by those who don’t fall under the earlier stated category of people (hair out a lot/ dry hair). Not washing your hair let’s say for a month can lead to product build up on your scalp which comes with itchiness
Also Remember to deep condition on every wash day after shampooing and conditioning your hair. Deep conditioning will help retain moisture through out week till your next wash day because as we all know, moisture is very essential for growth.
Another important routine to add to your hair regimen is to pre poo before you wash your hair either with hot oil or aloe vera. After washing your hair, do not forget to do a protective style (like twisting or braiding your natural hair). You can have hot oil treatment every three days in that protective hair style. It improves penetration of the oil into your shaft to facilitate hair growth.
Now daily, what you have to do is to get a growth or scalp treatment oil to oil scalp preventing itchy scalp, dandruff and also promote growth. You can also get a spray bottle add some water and spray unto your hair morning and evening. To keep your hair moisturized, please sleep with a satin bonnet or on a satin pillow case, this is extremely important. Just imagine following all these hair care regimen and then going to sleep every evening and rubbing your end against a cotton pillow for eight or more hours(even less). Wasted effort.
That cotton pillow will break your ends because it will absorb all the moisture in your hair and leave it dry making it prone to breakage but that is not what we want. We are looking for healthy hair with length retention.
Massaging your scalp daily is also a very good way of stimulating blood flow on your scalp which leads to hair growth.
Last but not least, you should have the habit of positive affirmations in your life. Tell yourself that your hair is growing healthily and beautifully. Once you keep saying it you will see a positive change in that aspect of your life.
I believe hair growth is a spiritual journey and like devotions and prayers it needs commitment and consistency. You can not expect results when you have not put in any effort. The regimen might seem a lot but trust the process. It will become something you look forward to doing monthly, weekly and daily.
Keep in mind that hair regimen is a try and error thing till you find the right routine and stick to it. Set backs should not discourage you. It is a journey for a reason.
Do you have a hair regimen? If you do please share in the comment your routine. And if you do not have, let me know why in the comments.
Hey life trackers! hope you are keeping safe and protecting yourselves. I’m here today to remind you that your skin is beautiful and needs to stay as such. One important skin routine we tend to skip is the use of scrubs. I bet some of you didn’t even think of that. Scrubs are as essential as your body cream. But. What are they anyways?
Scrubs are exfoliants. Which means they help remove the dead skins from your skin which improve softer and clearer skin. We have body scrubs, facial and even lip scrubs. These scrubs are normally made from coffeee, sugar, oil, essential oils etc. They’re so easy to make, people tend to make them at home. However, to have an extra special scrub, you should consider buying.
I for one love the Shea moisture 100% virgin coconut oil Ground Coffee Scrub. First of all, it has just an amazing smell. If you do not like the smell of coffee then you would not agree with me on how amazing the smell is. It contains Shea butter, coconut oil and coffee. These are ingredients we all know off. It contains no parabens, no phthalates,no propylene glycol, no mineral oil and no animal testing! Trust me you wouldn’t want the ingredients I just mentioned in your scrub. Because of how rough it feels, I do not apply it on my face. I only apply to my body focusing on the dark areas like my elbow, armpit and my knees. After massaging it on the mentioned areas of the skin, I rinse with warm water before I actually bath.
No please, you don’t use it everyday. Just once or twice a week should be just fine. One disadvantage though is how messy it makes your bathroom floor. But don’t worry, it’s just minor and temporary and needs water to wash it away.
When it comes to the facial scrubs, I will advise you get a scrub with a very gentle feel so you don’t end up with acne and pimples.
I hope you get a scrub for yourself because it comes with many benefits. I mean a soft and clearer skin helps to prevent dryness of the skin. I will link some Instagram stores where you can get yourself a facial and body scrub as well as a lip scrub.
Hey life trackers! How are you doing? I hope you are well and protecting yourselves. Although we are gradually getting our normal lives back before this whole COVID19 thing, we should not stop practicing social distancing protocols and staying home when we have nothing important to do outside.
i would love to share with you one important detail we tend to forget during our wash days which is pre poo. ‘Pre-poo’ is a term for any hair treatment before the shampooing. A pre-poo prepares your hair for washday by introducing a protective layer to your hair, thereby preventing the shampoo to be applied from stripping away your natural oils. It also helps moisturize your hair and make it easier to detangle. The most popular pre-poo treatment is the hot oil treatment. Aloe vera lovers can add some aloe vera to their pre-poo treatment.
So how is this treatment done? First section your hair and lightly wet it. Now pour your oils (preferably penetrating oils such as olive oil, coconot oil, shea butter, and castor oil) in warm water. You’re not obliged, anyway, to use all these oils. Two or three should be enough. Warm the oils by placing them in a container and then immersing the container in boiled water. Please the oils are not supposed to be extremely hot. Mind you, it’s going unto your scalp so the heat must be checked. Apply the warm oil on the scalp while massaging the scalp and working from root to ends. Cover with a shower, conditioning or steam cap. You can choose to leave it for 30mins (especially if you used a steam cap). You can also choose to leave it overnight. For my aloe vera lovers, all you have to do is get your aloe vera, cut them into your preferable sizes and apply unto the hair using the same procedure. You can also add warm oils after applying the aloe vera.
One amazing thing about prepooing is how soft it makes your hair for an easier wash day. It’s like your hair telling you it is ready for all the stress you are about to put her through.
Wash days can be VERY stressful, but what we do to our hair before washing can help reduce the stress. Interested in a less stressful wash day? Try this.
Hey life trackers, hope you’re protecting yourselves and staying alive. Don’t forget the gospel; wear your mask when stepping out and make sure to have your sanitizer with you. This is my first post on skincare and I must say, we can’t start using cleansers without knowing the number one rule when it comes to its application- the 60seconds rule. Whenever you apply a cleanser to your face, you must cleanse your face with your fingers for 60seconds. For me, I just count 1 to 60 in my head and I’m good to go. How is this done? You must rub your fingers gently on your face working in circles. Studies have shown that it helps soften the skin and dissolve sebum blockages better. This also improves texture and evenness. The sad thing is a lot of people are not aware of this rule and I know that most of us work on our face with our fingers for 15seconds max. But the few who know this rule have seen a tremendous change in their skin ever since they discovered this rule. I hope you try this easy and simple rule and see a change in your skin. Perhaps, you’re not getting the results you want not because of the cleanser but because of how the cleanser is applied.
Thank you so much for the love shown on my previous post. I really appreciate it and for those who did it I hope you continue with it. Please follow and don’t forget to like my post and also share to your friends!
DEEP CONDITIONING
Hey life trackers! I hope you are staying home and practicing social distancing. Remember to wear your nose mask and have a hand sanitizer when going out. IT’S NECESSARY. This too shall pass! You’d agree with me that this period is the best time to take care of your skin and hair. I’ve decided to start this blog, officially, talking about deep conditioning
Protein treatment or deep conditioning, as some may know it, requires much consideration when you desire to grow your hair out; whether on the head or on the face(beard).
Now the cheapest and best way is to do it organically. DIY(do it yourself). So let me start off with the ingredients: Half avocado/pear, two fingers of banana, 2 spoons of honey, an egg yolk blended with some essential oils like coconut oil, castor oil, argan oil or olive oil. Any of these oils used will be just perfect. You don’t need all these oils to make a protein treatment. Mind you, you don’t want to saturate your hair with so much protein; that’s why you’ll need to use them in small quantities. Just an egg yolk too is fine. After blending them together, make sure your hair is moisturized with water. Section the hair, and apply the mixture. You need to massage your scalp whiles doing it. Make sure to start from the back. After feeding every part of your hair with the mixture, cover it up. You can use a polytene and a bonnet or a deep conditioning cap. The idea is to trap heat in the hair in order to open your cuticles to absorb all the necessary nutrients. Your hair should be covered between 30 minutes and an hour. I don’t advise that you go beyond this duration.
Now as you sit and wait, let’s get into the importance of what you’ve applied unto your hair. Banana contains silica which helps your body to synthesize or produce collagen and makes your hair grow stronger and thicker. The same silica found in banana can help with frizzy hair. They also have antimicrobial properties that can help with flaky or dry scalp.
Honestly I’d say Avocado does all the magic! It reduces dryness, restores shine. Sometimes after taking your braids out your hair looks so dull and dry. Deep conditioning helps to get that healthy-looking hair back. Thick hair is a blessing in disguise. And pear is great at enhancing it.
The idea of egg yolk might have sounded weird for some of you but sis, bro, it is loaded with so much protein which will help your hair to grow stronger and stand up the heat. The importance of this treatment is to get back lost nutrients in the hair as a result of braiding or some sort of manipulation for a while. This makes egg yolk a vital ingredient.
Pure, undiluted honey is a good moisturizer. Its emollient property adds shine and luster to the hair. It is really a good conditioner and used in a lot of reliable hair products.
You can’t promote hair growth without essential oils. However, if you want to try the oils, you should know which works for your hair and use that. I will not restrict you. Use what you have and use it in moderation. The all round importance of the oils is it’s moisturizing effect on our hair.
I’m sure your time has elapsed! You will need to wash your hair under running water. Make sure it is lukewarm. Your hair suddenly feels heavy and shiny and bouncy and healthy; I know. That’s the magic! Please DO NOT shampoo your hair immediately. One mistake we make, washing our hair with shampoo after this treatment, makes the whole treatment useless. It does not necessarily take an hour for the products to work in your hair. It needs a day or two. So you can go in for Shea butter. If you want, you can also go in for a leave in conditioner to make it easier to twist or corn row your hair. After a day or two, feel free to have a wash day.
Thanks a lot for choosing this post as your guide. I hope your treatment went as expected. It is advisable to do this once a month. Relaxed hair needs this as much as natural hair. Be consistent. Your hair deserves good food too!
